More about Thailand Outreach
The Region
Thailand is a culturally vibrant country at the center of the Indochinese peninsula in mainland Southeast Asia. By size, it is slightly larger than Spain. It is bordered by Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, the Gulf of Thailand, Malaysia, and the Andaman Sea. Although there is no official state religion in the Thai constitution, Buddhism is practiced by close to 95% of the people. It’s considered a newly industrialized country with an emerging economy. Bangkok is the capital and most populated city with 8 million residents within city limits and another 14 million in the surrounding metropolitan area. According to the United Nations’ Office on Drugs and Crime, Thailand (and Bangkok’s Red Light districts in particular) is a hub for human trafficking and child prostitution.
The Ministry
At Envision Bangkok, every point of contact with people is an opportunity to move them one step closer to Jesus. The goal of the ministry is to be intentional with every opportunity they have to do whatever it takes to partner with God in reaching and mobilizing people for His glory. The ministry is currently outreaching to the top university in Thailand, and gather with a small group of Christians for Sunday worship. Envision Bangkok arranges English activities, game nights, baking, playing sports, coffee gatherings, and everything and anything to build relationships with young people. Envision Bangkok also partners with a ministry that helps move women and children in the Red Light District of Bangkok closer to Jesus. They are also developing partnerships focused on deaf ministry.
PAC-Supported International Workers
Tou Lee and Tang Thao (along with their children Abraham, Selah, and Winston) have been serving in Thailand since January 2011. Tou Lee is originally from Hortonville, Wisconsin. He was involved with youth ministry prior to becoming the Envision Bangkok Site Director. Tou Lee has a passion for preaching and evangelism. Tang is originally from Kansas City, Kansas, and completed her Bachelor of Science in English Education and TESOL at Crown College. She serves alongside her husband, juggling between ministry and the demands of raising their 3 children. When she has downtime, she enjoys baking sweets, crafting with her kids, playing board games, and running.
Prayer Requests
Successful ministry to Bangkok university students and the Red Light districts.
Each year brings new challenges in Bangkok. Please keep the Tong's in prayer as they navigate the changes.
