To the Ends of the Earth
Written by Boyd on Nov 21, 2008
I am working through the book of Isaiah in my morning time with God. I was struck by these words:
Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth;
for I am God, and there is no other.
By myself I have sworn, my mouth has uttered in all integrity
a word that will not be revoked;
before me every knee will bow; by me evey tongue will swear.
They will say of me, “In the Lord alone are righteousness and strength.”
— Isaiah 45:22-24
As we talk about missions (our next series) and reaching out past our neighborhoods into areas that cross cultural boundaries, I am reminded that the heart of God for the world is not just a New Testament concept. Even in Isaiah’s time his heart was for the world. Nothing less than the ends of the earth can satisfy God’s love.
I have a vision of raising $500,000 for missions in 2009. That might sound crazy after the stock market lost another 900 points in the last two days. But here is what I read Isaiah this morning:
Remember the former things, those of long ago;
I am God, and there is no other;
I am God and there is none like me.
I make known the end from the beginning,
from ancient times, what is still to come.
I say: My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.
— Isaiah 46:9-10
This is God’s heart. If He wants it done, I know that He will see it done. Let’s be part of what He will be doing!
See you this weekend.
